SMK Farmako Medika Plus Bogor Student Council Encourages Students to Learn About Indonesia’s Parliament Day
Bogor, October 16, 2025 — Did you know that every October 16 is celebrated as Indonesia’s Parliament Day? This commemoration marks the birth of Indonesia’s first representative body and reminds us of the importance of democracy for the nation’s young generation.
The history of Parliament Day dates back to the establishment of the Volksraad on October 16, 1918, by the Dutch East Indies government. Although it did not yet fully represent the voice of the Indonesian people, the Volksraad became the first milestone in forming a representative system that later evolved into the House of Representatives (DPR) after Indonesia’s independence.
The parliament plays a vital role as the people’s representative body — overseeing the government, voicing public aspirations, and drafting laws to advance the nation. Understanding the history of the parliament means appreciating the long journey of Indonesia’s struggle toward the democracy we enjoy today.
Through this commemoration, the Student Council (OSIS) of SMK Farmako Medika Plus Bogor invites all students to embrace the spirit of democracy — to think critically, express opinions wisely, and uphold responsibility in every voice we raise.
With the spirit of “The Voice of the People, The Voice of the Future”, let’s preserve the values of democracy and active participation for a better Indonesia! 🇮🇩🌟
